Wednesday July 1st, 6:30 - 8:30 pm: Discussion on the Uprising in Iran
The world has been witnessing several weeks of demonstrations and rebellion in Iran, with numbers at times in the millions. There are both deep divisions within Iran’s ruling circles, and a profound and broad hatred of the regime among the people.
The pillars of Iran’s power structure have been shaken and cracked. Which way it goes is up for grabs. The regime could undertake even more brutal repression. The Mousavi forces could try to call things off. And no doubt the U.S. and other powers will maneuver try to keep the terms acceptable to imperialist interests. On the other hand, through complex twists and turns, outbreaks and periods of calm…the struggle could develop in a revolutionary direction in which the interests of the masses are brought to the front.
All who hunger for radical change – for revolution – should not only fervently hope for, but politically support, this latter course.
Revolution Books Outlet will be hosting an important discussion on the Uprising in Iran this Wednesday, July 1st at the bookstore in Little 5 Points.
Topics will include:
o What is the background to the current crisis?
o How did the Islamic regime come to power in the 1979 revolution? What is the nature of this regime?
o What are the current differences between Ahmadinejad and Mousavi? What interests do they represent?
o What are the views of the masses who have come into the streets, and how have they changed through the crisis?
o What are the U.S. intentions in Iran – past, present and future?
o What are the possible outcomes immediately and in the longer term?
