Sunday, August 2, 4:00pm Discussion at Revolution Books

Join us Sunday as we continue to explore:
Ruminations and Wranglings: On the Importance of Marxist Materialism, Communism as a Science, Meaningful Revolutionary Work, and a Life with Meaning, by Bob Avakian, Chairman of the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA.

We will discuss part 6, called The Social Basis for Revolution.
This brings me to some other very important statements by Marx, which were cited in the book Ghana: End of an Illusion, by Bob Fitch and Mary Oppenheimer. This book was written more than 40 years ago, analyzing the rise and fall of Kwame Nkrumah in Ghana and the larger social and international relations bound up with this. In speaking about the partial revolution-or, in fact, reforms within the system of imperialism and exploitation that people grouped around Nkrumah were seeking to carry out in Ghana-Fitch and Oppenheimer quote Marx to contrast that experience with a "total revolution," that is, a real revolution that involves the radical transformation of society.

Watch or Listen to Cornel West and Carl Dix

Watch or Listen to the ground-breaking Dialogue between Cornel West and Carl Dix on The Ascendancy of Obama... and the Continued Need for Resistance and Liberation.
AVAILABLE at the Revolution Books NYC website:
www.revolutionbooksnyc.org
Also, Listen to the nationally broadcast interview with Carl Dix and Cornel West on Democracy NOW, July 22 with Amy Goodman, http://www.democracynow.org/2009/7/22/cornel_west_and_carl_dix_on

Cornel West and Carl Dix will break the silence and address from their different philosophical perspectives what the election of Obama really means for people in the U.S. and around the world. And they will exchange over the need for resistance and the prospects for and path to liberation for the oppressed in the U.S. and indeed, for all of humanity.

CORNEL WEST is one of America's most provocative public intellectuals and has been a champion for racial justice since childhood. His writing, speaking, and teaching weave together the traditions of the black Baptist Church, progressive politics, and jazz. The New York Times has praised his "ferocious moral vision." Dr. West currently teaches at Princeton University.

CARL DIX is a longtime revolutionary and a founding member of the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA. In 1970 Carl was one of the Fort Lewis 6, six GI's who refused orders to go to Vietnam. He served two years in Leavenworth Military Penitentiary for this stand. In the aftermath of the 1985 bombing of the MOVE house in Philadelphia, Carl initiated the Draw the Line statement, a powerful condemnation of the attack. He co-founded the October 22nd Coalition to Stop Police Brutality in 1996. Carl coordinated the Katrina hearings of the 2006 Bush Crimes Commission.

The Revolution We Need...
The Leadership We Have

A Message And A Call,
From The Revolutionary Communist Party, USA

This Is NOT The Best of All Possible Worlds. . .
And We Do NOT Have to Live This Way

". . .A system which offers millions and millions of youth no greater purpose, no better fate, than crime and punishment, or to become a mindless killing machine for the system itself - that alone is reason enough to sweep this system from the face of the earth! . . ."

". . .Right now, and in an ongoing way, we must spread the word about the revolution we need and the leadership we have, to every corner of this country. . .giving people the means to become part of this revolutionary movement, and organizing into this movement everyone who wants to make a contribution to it, who wants to work and fight, to struggle and sacrifice, not to keep this nightmare of a world going as it is but to bring a better world into being. . ."

As our Party's Constitution says: "The emancipation of all humanity: this, and nothing less than this, is our goal. There is no greater cause, no greater purpose to which to dedicate our lives."

This Is NOT The Best of All Possible Worlds…
And We Do NOT Have to Live This Way

"The land of the free, and the home of the brave." "The leader of the free world." That’s what they always say about this country. But this is a Big Lie.

The truth is that we live under a system that, from the start in this country, built up its wealth and power by enslaving millions of Black people, stealing land from Indians and Mexicans through war and genocide, and working many people, including children, literally to death. It is by such murderous means that this system has expanded "from sea to shining sea" across this continent—and around the whole world.

If you can conceive of a world without America- without everything America
stands for and everything it does in the world-then you've already taken great
strides and begun to get at least a glimpse of a whole new world. If you can
envision a world without any imperialism, exploitation, oppression -and the
whole philosophy that rationalizes it-a world without division into classes or
even different nations, and all the narrow-minded, selfish, outmoded ideas that
uphold this; if you can envision all this, then you have the basis for
proletarian internationalism. And once you have raised your sights to all this,
how could you not feel compelled to take an active part in the world historic
struggle to realize it; why would you want to lower your sights to anything
less?

Bob Avakian, Chairman of the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA
